

Born on August 10, 1929, to Leonard H. Johnson and Marie Lundy Johnson, he was raised in Park Ridge, Illinois, and graduated from Maine Township High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University in 1951.
Bob will be remembered for his steadfast Catholic faith, kindness, generosity, and principled character. His deep and unwavering devotion to his faith was the foundation of his life and guided everything he did. He cherished his six children and took immense pride in their accomplishments. An avid golfer, he especially enjoyed his years playing with the seniors group at Rivermont Golf Club.
Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life, Irene June Johnson, whom he married on January 17, 1953. They shared 55 years of joyful and devoted marriage filled with laughter, faith, and enduring partnership. He was also predeceased by his parents, his brother William H. Johnson, and his sisters Lenore Retze and Doris Einecker and 1 grandchild.
He is survived by his sons Robert Marc Johnson (Jill), Neil Johnson (Carolyn), and Eric Johnson; his daughters Christine Dempsey (Robert), Andrea Elgin (Ronald), and Lisa Henry (David); 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandy Springs, Georgia, with a reception immediately following in the Stapleton Center. A private graveside service for the family will follow at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
His legacy of faith, humility, and love will forever guide his family, who are deeply grateful for the prayers and support of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Saint Vincent de Paul or Catholic Charities.
