

Robert Earl (Bob) Mitchell, 83, of Dunwoody, GA passed away June 18, 2010. The son of the late Nathan L. and Mary Thomas Mitchell, he was born December 28, 1926, in Greensboro, NC. After a year at North Carolina State University he entered the US Navy and spent time in Japan at the end of World War II. He returned home and completed his engineering degree at North Carolina State. After college he and his wife moved to Maryland where he worked for Martin Aircraft. In 1958 the family moved to the Atlanta area where he worked for Lockheed; shortly thereafter he went to work as an engineer for Delta Air Lines and in 1989 retired after 29 years of service. He was a long time member of Kingswood United Methodist Church. Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, the former Nora Lee Bridges of Greensboro, NC, with whom he enjoyed many years of traveling as well as the joy of living near their daughter and two granddaughters. He is survived by his daughter Patricia (Pam) Adams and husband Al of Dunwoody, granddaughter Dr. Marjorie Adams Curry and husband Cameron of Decatur, granddaughter Virginia L. Adams of New York, NY, and one great granddaughter Vivian Curry of Decatur. Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell will be held Monday, June 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of H.M. Patterson- Oglethorpe Hill, with a visitation being held one hour prior to the service; interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements under the direction of H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe Hill, Atlanta, GA.
