Robert Pattillo Crawford, a native and lifelong resident of Atlanta, entered into eternal rest on July 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Helen Jester Crawford, from Lynchburg, Va. "A true gentleman," "a precious soul," "a prince of a man," and "one in a million" are a few of the many descriptions that capture our family's patriarch. He was a man of great faith who loved and served his Lord and Master. His witty sense of humor, kind and generous spirit, and quiet way of sharing the Lord's love with others were his hallmarks which will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He returned to Atlanta after his service and began a 40 year career in the title insurance business, retiring as the Vice President of Chicago Title Insurance Co. in 1985. He was a founding member of Christ Church of Atlanta. He also enjoyed his memberships in the Rotary Club of Atlanta and the Piedmont Driving Club. He was preceded in death by his adoring parents, Dr. and Mrs. James Harden Crawford (Hallie Pattillo), and siblings, Hallie Kenimer (Guy), Elizabeth Hitz (Alex), James Harden Crawford, Jr., and Josephine Robinson (Jim). He is survived by his two daughters, Harden Powell (Bill) and Jo Phelps (John); four grandchildren, Shelby Powell Drinkard (Rodney), Crawford Powell (Nancy), John Phelps, Jr. (Leigh), Josephine Phelps Long (Parker); eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia at 10 o'clock on Saturday, August 1, with the Reverend Alfred A. Sawyer officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at his home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church of Atlanta (P.O. Box 76320 Atlanta, GA 30358) or to a charity of your choosing. "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:
