Dr. Kahn was the son of entrepreneur, David E. Kahn, protege of the most famous and accurate psychic in the USA, Edgar Cayce. Thousands of people have been helped because of this Kahn lineage.

    Dr. Kahn was introduced to me 23 years ago by a psychiatrist who said, "Dr. Kahn is the psychiatrist that the psychiatrists consult."  
    Dr. Kahn's passing is a tremendous loss, not only to me, his patients, past and present, but also to the psychoanalytic community.  He was one of the last of a rare and quickly disappearing breed of profoundly intelligent, meticulously trained analysts.  His own superior, innate intelligence, uncommon knowledge, interior balance and vast experience was strengthened and honed by his hard core adherence to the empirical process.  He was the most careful thinker I have met.  More than once, as I listened to him, I went silent as the deepest respect arose in me, as though I listened to a Maestro.  He had mastered an amazing ability to dissect the extraordinarily intricate complexity of one mind and its unconscious contents considering another.  More impressively, he utterly lacked pretension or judgment and had perfected an ease of discourse, having learned the difficult art of making complex matters comprehensible to simpler minds and less mature emotions.  His abilities became all the more formidable over a lifetime of inquiry about the mind.  Yet, all of the lives he saved; all of the pain he carefully assuaged; all of the destruction he helped to correct; all of the training he provided his students/analysands; all of the enormous energy, precise intelligence, wisdom, craft that he lent to his patients will largely go publicly unsung, albeit sheltered in the hidden heart of hearts, due to the nature of his calling.  Nevertheless, his influence will continue to live in that hidden chamber where it will be passed onto others, in one form or another.
    To say he was deeply intelligent, learned and disciplined does not say enough.  That the full treasure of the contents of his mind, the knowledge he mastered, burnished to a point of beauty over years and years of discipline and hard work, and that his emotional integrity, maturity and balance could simply vanish is an incomprehensible, tragic, grievous blow.
The pain of his loss for me is unspeakable.  Dr. Kahn's contribution to my life cannot be overstated.  Every referral I made to him also benefitted from his intellectual and emotional wealth.  I cannot imagine the grief of those he loved as family and close friends.  I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and to others who loved and appreciated him, whether as family, friend, father figure, mentor, patient or other.  I deeply mourn his passing.
