

He was born in Niagara Falls, New York, the son of the late Leonard and Janet (Ferington) McKay.
He is survived by his sister Sue Lamarr of Sanborn, New York and two nieces Brenda Fauzey of Lewiston, New York and Melissa Lamarr of Niagara Falls, New York.
He graduated from Niagara-Wheatfield Senior High School and attended Buffalo State College until joining the Army in 1973 where he served as an Air Traffic Controller until 1976.
He subsequently worked for Southern Mold and Engineering (D-M-E Corp) in Atlanta, Georgia and later for Southern Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 2009. Having a big passion for animals, he also started and operated a pet sitting/walking business for 12 years. Steve spent a lot of time volunteering and advocating for shelter animals.

At the convenience of his family, he will be buried in Mount View Cemetery in Pekin, New York.
