

Billy was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia, to William H. Greer, Sr. and Pauline Ingram Greer. After World War II, the Greers moved to Macon, Georgia, and Billy graduated from Lanier High School, where he played varsity football and participated in ROTC.
Billy attended Mercer University in Macon and Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, graduating from Wofford in 1962. He joined the US Navy through its Officer Candidate School and served in Vietnam on the USS Okanogan. After his release from active duty, Billy served in the Naval Reserve for another twenty years, retiring with the rank of Captain.
Billy returned to Macon and married Kay Smith in January, 1967, working as a stock broker at Kohlmeyer & Co. and then Robinson Humphrey. Billy and Kay had two sons, William Harold (Hal) Greer, III, and George Smith Greer.
In 1991, Billy married Martha H. Peace. Billy and Marty resided in Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia, where Billy served as Branch Manager for the Smith Barney office in Monarch Tower.
Billy retired from Smith Barney in 2004. With his son Hal, Billy next formed Greer Wealth Advisors and opened a branch of Morgan Keegan & Co. in Macon. Morgan Keegan subsequently became Raymond James Financial, where Billy worked until his retirement in 2023.
Billy loved playing golf and the many friends he made playing the game over 50 years. Billy was a member now or formerly of Idle Hour Club, Shoal Creek, Capital City Club, and Highlands Country Club. Billy was a gentleman and made friends everywhere he went.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Martha H. Peace, his sons Hal (Jenny) and George (Anna) of Macon, his stepson Britt Peace (Maria) of Atlanta, and five grandchildren, Maggie, Harry, Eli, Kate and Hank Greer of Macon. Billy is also survived by his brother Jake Greer (Rosalyn) and Lee Greer (Joan) of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. at the Oglethorpe Hill Chapel at H.M. Patterson & Son on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with a reception to follow on site at 4550 Peachtree Road NE in Atlanta. A memorial service will also be held at Idle Club in Macon at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Peachtree United Methodist Church in Atlanta or Christ Episcopal Church in Macon.
