
Mel was a graduate of Athens High School. He grew up attending Market Street Church of Christ. He dedicated 42 years to Bellsouth/AT&T. Mel married the love of his life in 2008 and they spent the next 14 years in Rainbow City, Alabama. In his free time, he enjoyed Alabama football, shooting skeet and time spent with grandsons.
Preceded in death by: Father, Puryear Johnston and mother, Mary Will Johnston.
Survived by: Wife, Penny; daughter Susan Sherrill (Jonathan); stepdaughter, Cory Skelton (Chris) and grandchildren: Sawyer, Stone and Cash. Sisters: Amy Jo Gervais (Sunrise) Deborah Johnston and special sister Gwendolyn Christopher. Brother: Ben Johnston. Nieces: Sullivan and Quinn Johnston.
Special Friends: Greg Jackson, Bill Brodeur, Mike Nelson, Richard Lee, Chris Weigt, Pankaj Kashyap and Mary and Alexandra at Cracker Barrell.
