Mr. Simmons was a longtime member of Morton’s Chapel Methodist Church and a graduate of Walnut Grove High School.
Professionally, Charles had a long career as a tool and die machinist, spending many years with local companies such as Dixie Tool, Alabama Tool and Tocco, Inc. in Boaz. Upon his retirement from Tocco, Inc, Charles began serving as the owner/operator of “Sports and More” for nine years. Later he also enjoyed woodworking at M & L Woodworking.
Charles always showed himself to be industrious and hardworking, but more than anything he was a family man. He loved his grandchildren especially and took every opportunity to love and encourage them. From being present at their sporting events to praying for them to bragging about their accomplishments, he was beyond proud of them and he held on to his earthly life as long as he could to let them know he loved them.
He was preceded in death by his father, T.J. (Dolly) Simmons; mother, Annis Holland Simmons; and his sister, Betty Simmons Jenkins.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Wilson Simmons; daughter, Susan Simmons; son, Edward Simmons; beloved grandsons, Caleb, T.J., and Chris Simmons; sisters, Ruth Payne, Nell Payne, LaDonna (Michael) Clements; brother, Sherrell (Kay) Simmons; sister in law, Betty (Shelby) Avery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held prior to the service Sunday from 11 until 12p.m. for family and 12 until 2 p.m. for friends at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
