Chita Conn Blakeley

Chita – age 66 – passed away this morning, August 25, 2023, at home in

Gallant, Alabama. Brother Clay Spears, MSgt Gavin Blakeley, Bro. Kyle Blakeley, and Elder Jonathan Blakeley will speak at the memorial service along with three grandchildren.

Her father, Carl Douglas Conn, preceded her in death. She leaves behind to carry on, her husband of 47 years, Col (Ret) Waylon Delane Blakeley, her three sons with their families: Jonathan Andrew Blakeley (Elder), Lacey, Audrie Leigh & John Tyler Blakeley; Brother Kyle David Blakeley, Kathryn, Johnnie Caleb & Carson Oden Blakeley, MSgt Gavin Cole Blakeley; her mother, Mattie Sue Green Conn, sister; Felisa Conn Brothers and brother-in-law Todd Brothers; niece, Carmen Brothers Brewer (Benjamin), along with aunts, uncles & cousins.

She loved living, traveling, and being with Audrie, J. T., Caleb, & Carson. Her many travels included visiting all 50 states and 10 foreign countries. She graduated from Ashville High School in 1975 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from UAB in Birmingham in 1989. She earned a Master’s Degree from UAB and taught high school and middle school math in Gadsden schools, in Cleveland High School and Middle School in Blount County retiring with 20 plus years of total service. She grew up as an active member of Bethlehem United Baptist Church at Gallant enjoying music, playing piano and organ. Later she joined Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church at Rockford where she was a faithful member for many years until the present time.

Pall Bearers will be John Tyler Blakeley, Johnnie Caleb Blakeley, Carson Oden Blakeley, Benjamin Brewer, Keith Battles, Clint Hathcock, and Tyler Lutes.

A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem United Baptist Church, Gallant with burial in adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be 10am till 12pm with service to follow at 12 noon on Monday, 28 Aug 2023. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family wishes to thank the staff of Compassus Hospice for their loving care for Mother during this difficult time.
