Dad was a true American Patriot from early in life. At 17, he joined the Navy to do his part to keep Americans free during World War II. Staying in the Navy Reserves after the war, he was proud to be a retired Navy Seabee. His constant prayer was that the country he loved so would return to God.
He worked at the Steel Plant as a machinist for over 40 years. Being a master carpenter and farmer, he not only constructed many homes; he also grew a bounty of crops. He was known to show up at the door of family and friends with baskets of veggies and eggs; the fruits of his labor.
He was a true example of Christian love in action. He didn’t see social status or wealth. Everyone was loved the same by him and how happy it made him to help others along the way. He had a wonderful trac ministry leaving a trail of tracs wherever he traveled. A family member once found one he left in Atlanta, a lady who came to his house for help received a trac and a few weeks later returned to tell him she had accepted Jesus. This was his service, showing others Jesus’s love. Loved and respected by all who knew him, he was a man of great faith, charter, strength, loyalty, and honor. His legacy will live on for generations.
He was a faithful member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church as long as he was able to attend. Brother Bailey was not only his pastor but his friend.
