On Wednesday November 24, 2021, Glenn Allen Hicks “Big G”, a loving husband, father, and grandfather; as well as a sincere and supportive friend to so many was called home unexpectedly at the age of 65.
Glenn was born on February 17, 1956 and raised in Attalla, AL, where he would create friendships that would last a lifetime. Shortly after graduating from Etowah High School (Class of 1974), he would begin to date fellow classmate, Freida Abney, and they would get married on August 19, 1975. They would raise their daughter, Ashleigh, who would later bless them with two grandsons that quickly earned a special place in Glenn’s heart. While family was what Glenn loved more than anything, work and golf would follow shortly behind. After graduating, Glenn began his career at Majors Iron Company. In 1976, Glenn and his brother Larry would embark on a business venture together, Coosa Valley Steel, where Glenn served as Vice President. Here is where his career began to flourish, and he would continue this labor of love until his last day on this earth. When asked about retirement, Glenn would often respond by saying, “why stop something you enjoy doing.” Glenn and Freida are members of Church of the Highlands, where they regularly attended. When not at work or church, Glenn would spend his spare time at the golf course. He loved golf and sharing that time with family and friends, along with introducing the sport to his grandkids.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Frances Hicks; and niece, Barbie Hicks Miller. He is survived by his wife, Freida A. Hicks; daughter, Ashleigh H. Ray (Chris); grandsons, Jackson and James Asher Ray; two brothers, Larry Hicks (Christi), Corky Hicks (Kerry); sister-in-law, Ann Hicks; nieces and nephew; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Cox, Randy Honeycutt, Kurt Nassif, Tim Reed, Mark Tow, and Brian VanDeVanDer.
Visitations will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, November 30, 2021, from 12 to 1 p.m. The funeral service will also be held at Morgan Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 1 p.m. Pastors James Long and Mark Price will officiate. After the funeral service, a graveside burial will be held at Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, AL.
