

Harold L. Burton, 77, of Southside, Alabama went to his eternal home on March 14, 2022. Born and raised in Altoona, Alabama. Graduated from Altoona High School in 1962, He married his childhood sweetheart, Ila, of 57 years in 1964. He attended Gordon Military College and graduated from Athens State Community College.
He worked as a nursing home admin in Starkville, Mississippi where he also owned a Western Sizzler in Jackson Mississippi. From there he was a hospital administrator in Marion, South Carolina, where they adopted Caroline, AKA Hollywood, was what her daddy called her growing up.
In 1977 he started Burton’s Food Store with his brother, Dennis for 10 years. In 1978 he moved to Southside and had 10 grocery stores where they attended Southside Baptist. He served as a deacon and teller committee for years. Harold loved everything about the game of golf, except when he didn’t get a hole in one. He enjoyed the stock market where he called Keith Fountain at least nine times a day. “What are we buying or selling today?” Harold loved life and lived it to the fullest and most importantly he loved his family with his heart of gold. There is no question about where he is today. He loved his Lord and Savior.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Willie Mae Burton, his father, Ernest K. burton, his sister, Helen Kidder. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ila, daughter, Caroline, brother, Dennis (Linda), sister, Barbara DeLouche, Brother-in-law, Ray (Novella) Cone, Sister-in-law Dawn (Charlie) Cone, special nieces and nephews.
Pall Bearers will be Warren Furhman, Keith Raines, George Thorpe, Bill Firestone, Steve Burton, Jeremey Burton, Ryne Shephard and John Messer. Honorary Pall Bearers are Tracy Cone, Landon McWilliams and Zelie Vallejo. Pastors officiating are Lauil Thompson, Max Barton and Chris Cone

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Altoona Methodist Church with Rev. Thompson officiating. Mr. Burton will lie in state at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Visitation will also be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
