James "Sonny" Alvis Bowlen

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel on Wednesday September 13, 2017 at 11 A.M. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 10 to 11 A.M. prior to the service in the chapel.

Rev. Alen Johnson will officiate the service along with special speakers J.L. Parker and Lawayne Bowlen.

Graveside service with military honors will be held at Montevallo National Cemetery at 2:45 P.M. Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Bowlen was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. “Sonny” as he was known to his friends and family was a member of Second Baptist Church of Altoona, and a longtime member of the Walnut Grove Masonic Lodge. Out of his many hobbies, Sonny most enjoyed being out in the woods deer hunting, watching Auburn college football and coin collecting. Known as Pawpaw Sonny to his precious grandchildren, Sonny was a beloved man to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Vera.

He leaves behind;

Jamalia Latham (Danny)

Brandi (Brian) Jett

Sisters, Belinda Greffith and Charlotte Kirby (Tim)

Along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to; Dr. David Wynn and the nurses doctors and staff of Shepherds Cove and Hospice of Marshall County for your compassionate care and guidance.
