James R. "Smacky Mac" McDowell, age 69 of Rainbow City, died Friday, August 18,2017. A memorial service will be held at 5 P.M. Monday, August 21,2017 at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Vann Lockridge officiating.
James was retired from Goodyear and from the National Guard. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and a graduate of Hokes Bluff High School. He loved Alabama football and golf.
James is survived by his wife, Sheila McDowell of Rainbow City; mother, Nina McDowell of Hokes Bluff; daughter, Karen Lowery of Gadsden; daughter & son-in-law, Shelby (Brian) Bush of Gadsden; step-son, Jesse Coffia of Mobile; sister & brother-in-law, Jana (Benny) West of Hokes Bluff; brother & sister-in-law, Larry (Debbie) McDowell of Dothan; grandsons, Austin and Aaron Bush of Gadsden and granddaughters, Briana Lowery of Gadsden and Haley Lowery of Glencoe.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the golfers at Twin Bridges, Ricky Young, "Chicken", "Mountain" and "Red".
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 5 P.M. Monday at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
