James Terry Stewart

James Terry Stewart, 83 of Ashville passed away June 2, 2018. Funeral Service will be held at 2p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Ashville with Rev. Ronnie Little, Dr. James Sampley and Dr. Jay Stewart officiating. Lie in state will be prior to the service from 1 until 2p.m.

Burial will be at Ashville Cemetery.

Terry was the Senior Vice President and Chief Loan Officer of Ashville Savings Bank, retiring after 30 years in 1997. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Ashville where he served many years as treasurer. He also served in the Ashville City Council from February 1961 through September 1976. He also served in numerous city, county, and state organizations. Terry was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 60 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Stewart and brothers, Joe Stewart and Charles Stewart.Mr. Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jane Ward Stewart; daughter, Terri Lu Whitten, son in law; Mark Whitten, and grandson, Mark Andrew Whitten. Also survived by brother, John Stewart; sister in law, Barbara Stewart; sister in law, Frances Baswell; brother and sister in law, George and Diane Ward; brother in law, Jackie Ward, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joe Lee Griffith Hope Lodge, 1104 Irlend Way, Birmingham, AL or First Baptist Church, Ashville Building Fund.

Pallbearers will be Sam Baker, Marty Baswell, Brian Duncan, Charlie Robinson, Tommy Robinson, Burt Rowell, Swede Scarborough, Roger Stewart, and Trae Ward.

Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of Ashville Savings Bank, and James (Dick) Woods.

Visitation will be held at Morgan Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018
