Linda Joyce Beam Morris, 70, of Gadsden, Alabama, passed away on June 1, 2025, in her hometown. A proud native of Etowah County, Linda was born on October 16, 1954, in Gadsden to Emma Agnes Beam and Milford J. Beam.
She attended Emma Sansom High School, Linda went on to serve her country with honor as a sergeant of the Air National Guard. Her dedication to service extended into her professional life as well. Early in her career, she worked as a Police Officer in Montgomery, Alabama. In 1989, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University and later completed advanced studies as an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). Over the years, she held multiple positions in the medical field where she mentored many and made a lasting impact. Her career included roles at Holy Name of Jesus Medical Center ER, Gadsden Regional Medical Center ER, Riverview Medical Center, Digestive Disease Specialists, and with Dr. Akisanya as a Nurse Practitioner and Hospitalist.
Linda married the love of her life and best friend, William T. Morris Jr., on August 5, 1971. Together they built a life rooted in love and family in Hokes Bluff until his passing. She was deeply devoted to her daughters Mary Ann (Glen) Walker, and Barbara (Joey) Vice. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lynsie Bree (Chandler) Poss, William (Kaitlynn) Burns, Ivore’ White, Dustin Bonner, Kanyon White, Keelen Vice, chosen grandson Graysen Lawrence; and great-grandchildren Fisher Tatum, Sky Taft, and Saskia Rose Taft.
Linda is fondly remembered by her sister Marlene Smith; chosen sister Lucero Middleton; sisters-in-law Nancy Beam, Mary Ellen (D.P.) Lecroy, and Barbara Jones; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to her as "Aunt Joyce". She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William T. Morris Jr.; parents Emma Agnes Beam and Milford J. Beam; parents-in-law William T. Morris Sr. and Hazel Morris; and brothers Sam Beam, Jeff Beam, James Beam, and Richard Beam.
Linda was a loving wife, sister, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She dedicated her professional and personal life to providing care for others. She served as a caregiver for her brother Richard, her mother Agnes, and her mother-in-law Hazel, and regularly assisted other family members and friends when needed.
Linda lived life with passion and purpose. She loved fiercely—with her whole heart—and embraced every moment with enthusiasm. A Disney fanatic with a deep love for roller coasters and adventure, she was an adrenaline junkie at heart who found joy in the thrill of new experiences. She loved the beach, where ocean waves soothed her soul, and enjoyed collecting seashells and visiting lighthouses.
Her interests were diverse and reflected her vibrant personality. She had an appreciation for Mexican cuisine, Hershey’s chocolate, antiques, thrift stores, swans, and repurposing forgotten treasures. Most importantly, she valued her family, both biological and chosen.
Linda was active in her community throughout her life. When her daughters were young, she served as a resolute Girl Scout leader for girls ranging from Brownies to Cadettes; instilling values of courage and confidence that would ripple through generations. As a nurse, she administered first aid during local events and Girl Scout outings and conducted first aid training for various troops.
Those who knew Linda remember her as intelligent and determined, stubborn when it mattered most and always demanding excellence from herself and others. She was patriotic to the core and took immense pride in having served her country.
May Linda’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. May the legacy she leaves behind continue to inspire strength, compassion, adventure, and love without limits.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the staff and physicians at Gadsden Regional Medical Center for their unwavering dedication and support.
