

2016, following a very brief illness. A lifelong resident of Etowah County, Bobby was a
member of the Gadsden High School Class of 1959. He attended Jacksonville State
University and chiropractic college in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a member of Twelfth
Street Baptist Church. He was a 32
nd
degree Mason and a Shriner. He served his
country in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army.
Throughout his life, Bobby enjoyed inventing, creating, selling, buying and planning
different designs and projects. He was a real estate broker and developer. He
pioneered the first security alarm business in Etowah County, which grew and
expanded throughout the southeast. His more recent endeavors included graphic arts,
wood cutting and engraving, designing and building custom routing equipment, 3D-
scanning and printing, and vinyl signs.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, the Reverend S. Paul Owens, Sr.; his
brothers, James Andrew Owens , and S. Paul Owens, Jr.; his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs.
L. A. J. Owens (Mary Jane); the Reverend & Mrs. James C. Collins, Sr. (Eva); his triplet
grandchildren, Nathan, Eva, & Nickolas Dearth; and, his niece, Cindy Slate.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. S. Paul Owens, Sr. (Geneva Collins), Gadsden; his
daughters, Mary Beth Morris (John), Snellville, GA, Tobye Dearth, Toccoa, GA, Paula
Knight (Joel), Trussville; his son, Robert Owens, II (Anna), Springville; his
grandchildren, Morgan, Reed, Collin, Miriam and Micah Morris, Jacob and Lilly Dearth,
Abigail, Madilyn, and Noah Knight; his sister, Nancy Fields (Ray), Attalla; his brother,
Dr. Charles L. Owens (Patricia), Somerville; his uncle, J. C. Collins, Jr., Scottsboro;
nieces, Susie Eads (Bobby), Amanda House (Dorsey), Jessica Wimberly (Chris);
nephews, S. Paul (Boom) Owens, III, Stephen Fields (Jennifer), Paul Fields (Alison),
Charles Lewis Owens, II (Meghan), Harrel Owens (Heather); and many great-nieces,
great-nephews, and cousins whom he loved. Bobby is also survived by his former wife
and friend, Patty Maxwell Owens of Rainbow City.
The family wishes to thank the Gadsden Regional Medical Center SICU nurses,
physicians, ER staff, and emergency transport services.
Bobby’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 1pm at Morgan Funeral
Chapel, Attalla, with Dr. Charles Owens and the Reverend Bobby Eads officiating. The
family will receive friends beginning at 11am. Interment following in Crestwood
Cemetery, East Gadsden. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Building
Fund of Twelfth Street Baptist Church.
