Our loving dad and papa, Ronald Eugene Battles, received his Heavenly healing on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024. He is now in the arms of Jesus, his Savior and Lord! He reminded us during his final days the simple yet most important life value “give thanks to God”.
(1)“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. (2) I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O most High.” (Psalms 9:1) (6)”Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalms 23:6)
Ronald Eugene Battles, was a Christian first, and served as a member, Sunday School Teacher, and a Deacon at First Baptist Church Gallant. He attended Ivalee Elementary, Etowah County High School, Snead Junior College, Auburn University, and graduated from Jacksonville, State University in 1971.
Ronald Eugene Battles was a Veteran of the US Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War Era. He was stationed at Fort Jackson, SC; Fort Devens, MA; Torii Station Okinawa; Vint Hill Farms, VA; Herzogenaurach, Germany. Mr. Battles worked for Gibson Structural Steel in 1972, and at the Civil Service Noble Army Hospital at Fort McClellan, AL, from 1973-1999; at Miss Martha’s Originals from 2002-2005; and at Westbrook Christian School from 2005-2010.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation on Thursday night, May 16, 2024 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at First Baptist Church Gallant at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, with burial in Gallant Cemetery following. Rev. Jeff Rowan will officiate. Mr. Battles will lie in state at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Battles was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy McClendon Battles; his parents, Robert Morris and Gussie Mae Copeland Battles; his brother, Maurice Battles; father and mother in law, Johnny J. and Bessie Chandler McClendon; grandparents, Ewing W. (Sr.) and Allie Mae Battles, Allen and Eula Copeland.
Mr. Battles is survived by his children, Rhonda Ford (Jonathan), and Jason Battles (Vanessa); grandchildren, Ella and Alex Ford and Mason and Caleb Battles; sister, Deborah Battles Golden; brothers in law, Danny Golden and Donald McClendon; sisters in law, Annie Lee McClendon Cannon, Melba McClendon, Dorothy McClendon, and Eunice McClendon; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Active Pallbearers will be Chip Cannon, Roger Cannon, Max Hilburn, Steve McClendon, Roger Campbell, Dwight Rusk, Jarrid Traylor, Jon Wright, Matthew McClendon, Butch Denney, and Chris Davenport.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the following: Etowah Baptist Mission Center, American Cancer Society, National Heart Association, St. Jude’s Hospital, or Diabetes Foundation.
