

Mr. McDaniel passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Floyd County Hospital in Rome, Georgia. Born and raised in Sand Valley, he was a 1950 graduate of Etowah High School. After graduation, Mr. McDaniel joined the United States Air Force and honorably served for four years. After receiving honorable discharge, he went to work for Republic Steele as an Annealer for over 30 years before retiring. Mr. McDaniel loved the outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, canning, mowing grass and working in his yard. Mr. McDaniel also enjoyed watching Auburn football, NASCAR races and reading, notably Louis L’Amour books. ”Papa” loved spending time with his granddaughters. Mr. McDaniel was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and attended Red Hill United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice L. McDaniel of Ivalee, his daughter, Rita McDaniel Smith (Brian) of Pensacola, FL, his son, Russell H. “Rusty” McDaniel, Jr. (Tonya) of Camilla, GA, two granddaughters, Bailey Carol Smith of New York, NY and Elizabeth Audrey McDaniel of Camilla, GA, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Finis and Mildred D. McDaniel, and his sister, Louise Meeks.
Active Pallbearers will be: Clay Lee, Reece Lee, Freddie Lee, Brian Smith, Nick Freeman, Randall Freeman, Edward Lee and Scott Howard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Larry Battles and Jimmy Smith.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Webb Sledge and his staff at Gadsden Medical Clinic, as well as the staff of Cherokee County Health & Rehabilitation Center.
