Stanley was born on September 3, 1935. He was raised in Tillison Bend and he attended Glencoe High School where he played football. He proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict in 1955. After the Korean Conflict, he returned to college at Jacksonville State University where he walked on to play football. Stanley was on the offensive line for the Gamecocks. It was at Jacksonville State where he met Beulah Richey, the love of his life. They raised their 2 sons Bryan and Craig in Whorton’s Bend. Stanley was very active in his son’s lives. From supporting them in sporting events to teaching them how to keep up a yard or fix anything that breaks. Family church attendance was important to him. Stanley attended Grace Bible Church for 43 years. He had a passion for missions and enjoyed supporting missionaries sent out to share the gospel from Grace Bible. Much of his work career was spent at National Cash Register (NCR) but he ultimately Retired from the Anniston Army Depot in 2000.
Stanley was a conversationalist. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed talking to people wherever he went. Stanley, (Pops), was proud of his grandsons Corey, Sam and Luke and would often work them into any conversation. He has supported his grandsons all through their life being present at anything they were involved in. His legacy was recently extended with the births of his 2 great grandchildren, Kate and Drew, who would put a big smile on his face whenever they were around.
Stanley was a history buff. His love of history has been carried on by his oldest grandson, Corey. He was an avid Auburn fan and loved to tailgate a football game each year where he would bring smoked ribs and wings. He loved the beach, family vacations and picnics. Our fondest memories of Pops will be around the dinner table partaking in his delicious grilling and smoked meats.
Stanley was a loving husband, father, pops and friend. His legacy will live on.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Grace Burger, his siblings, Clarence (Audra) Burger, Erston (Ann) Burger, Dorothy (Gene) Smith and Pat Burger.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beulah Richey Burger, his sons Bryan (Shannon) Burger and Craig (Tammie) Burger, his grandsons, Corey (Jenna) Burger, Sam Burger and Luke Burger and great-grandchildren, Kate and Drew Burger, and sister-in-law, Idora Burger.
