Agnes Packard, affectionately known to many as “Aggie,” passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 95—just two months shy of her 96th birthday. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Aggie lived a vibrant life full of laughter, love, and an unmistakable spark that brought joy to everyone around her.
Born on September 16, 1929, Aggie was a lighthearted, joyful soul from the start. Her sense of humor and infectious laughter became her signature traits—she had the rare gift of lighting up any room and making everyone feel welcome and entertained. Her wit and warmth weren’t just delightful; they were unforgettable.
Aggie was well known throughout Placer County not only for her radiant personality but also for her decades of dedication to the local restaurant scene. Alongside her beloved husband Ray, she opened a series of cherished eateries beginning in 1964 with Honey’s Café next to the State Theater. The pair later created the legendary Raggies—named after Ray and Aggie—a breakfast spot famous for its slogan “Ham and Eggs, That Is!” and for serving what many called the best breakfast in town. Their restaurants became more than places to eat; they were cornerstones of the community where people gathered, laughed, and felt at home.
Aggie also played a special role in Auburn’s racing community as a trophy hostess, proudly representing the spirit of celebration and camaraderie that defined her life.
She was the proud mother of four children, three of whom survive her, and the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family that includes 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of laughter, warmth, and deep love lives on in each of them.
To know Aggie was to love her. She made life lighter and happier just by being in it. Her memory will be a blessing and her laughter will echo in our hearts forever.
A celebration of Aggie’s life will be held on August 9th at 11am, located at 3126 Olympic Way, Auburn, CA 95603, followed by brunch afterwords. To RSVP, please contact Rochelle Packard at (530)305-3779. In the meantime, her family invites all who knew her to share their stories and smiles—just as Aggie would’ve wanted.
What a life.
