It was great spending time with all of you this weekend. Keep in touch. Sorry, my balloon story posted 2 times becuase I didn't realize it had to be approved before posting so I thought it hadn't worked.

Barb was my Mom’s sister, so my Aunt, and a great one at that! I had the honor of being asked to sing at her funeral last weekend, and a beautiful story unfolded that I was asked to share with others. 

For those of you that don’t know, Barb’s mother (my Grandmother) passed away exactly 2 months prior to the day of Barb’s funeral ( I also sang at my grandmother’s funeral). Two days before my grandma died, I sent some balloons up with my mom to give to her. They were heart-shaped Mylar balloons that I had had written the words “We” “Love” “You” “Grammy” on each. After Grandma’s funeral, the balloons were sent home with my daughter, Maycee, since she the balloons came from us. A few days after the funeral, Maycee asked if she could release a balloon into the sky. I thought, why not, and we chose the “Grammy” balloon as a symbolic “farewell” to Grandma. Curious where “Grammy” might land, I wrote with permanent marker on the back of the balloon, “If found, please call ###-###-####(my cell phone number).” Over a month went by and my daughter asked if anyone had ever called about finding Grammy’s balloon. I had forgotten all about it, but I told her it probably got stuck in a tree, lost down a river, or the number was not longer legible. 

The morning of Barb’s funeral, my mom decided last minute to sing along with the chorus of the song I was asked to sing. Interestingly, the song the family chose was titled “Sissy’s Song” by Alan Jackson. Until she was in college, everyone in the valley called Barb “Sissy.” The chorus goes: “She flew up to heaven on the wings of angels, by the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees, and she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting and I know she’s smiling saying, don’t worry ‘bout me.” Minutes after practicing our song for the last time, I received a phone call on my cell. It was a man that was Elk hunting in the mountains of Idaho. He told me that he was on top of a remote mountain outside of Cambridge, ID when he found something sparkling on the ground. Surprised to find “garbage” in such a private area, he picked it up. Yes, it was “Grammy’s” balloon and he decided to call the number. I of course thanked him for making my day!

Some of you may chalk this up to ironic coincidence, but I know better. I know the discovery of Grammy’s  balloon on the morning of Barb’s funeral, was a sure sign that they were both with us that day and that their spirits live on.  Pay attention to the small coincidences in your life; most likely, they are quiet signs from your loved ones, letting you know that they are still here. Thank your Grandma and Barb. I love you and will miss you…. until we meet again.

I know that our spirits live on after death, and Grandma and Barb gave me a sure sign that they were both with us that day. Pay attention the the "coincidences" in your life; they are most likely signs from your loved ones who have passed on, letting you know that they are still here in spirit. Thank you Aunt Barb and Grandma, I love you and will miss you both...until we meet again!

Condolences to the entire Don Nunns family on your loss. I will always remember how Barbara happened to drop by my moms home one day and the minute she saw her (her nursing skills kicked in) recommended to my brother Bill that he take mom to a doctor because she had a jaundice look. She did have the early stages of pancreatic cancer. Barbara always had the presence to help others.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Barbara was a very dear friend and co-worker at Roseville Hospital many years ago.  I have thought of her often even though we were not in touch in the past years.  She was a very special person and an excellent nurse.  I extend my sincerest sympathy.   Phyllis Toney RN

Your loss is extremely hard to bear at this difficult time. We share this grief with you as well. Aunt Barbara was a wonderful, caring woman with a heart of gold, and was so  special to all of us.
