Jan. 15, 1932 – May 12, 2012
Charles D. ‘Chuck’ England passed away in his home on May 12, 2012 in Newcastle, California. He was born January 15, 1932 in Glendive, Montana to Charles and Doris England. Chuck is one of the great athletes in Dawson County High School history, having lettered in four varsity sports, football, basketball, baseball and track for four years. Chuck was named Montana All-State in football and basketball and was state shot-put champion. The Red-Devil football teams of 1947 – 1949 won three consecutive Montana Eastern A titles and won the 1948 state championship and he is named on the Dawson Heralds All Half Century Team, 1950. Chuck earned a football scholarship to Washington State University, starting for the Cougars as a defensive end and wide-receiver and threw the discus for the track team, finishing second in the Pacific-8 league championships in 1952. While at Washington State, Chuck, a Kappa Sigma fraternity member, met his future wife, Betty Kay English and were married in Wenatchee in 1956. Soon after, Chuck was drafted and he served in the United States Army as a medical instructor and medic. Chuck then completed his degree in Sociology from Washington State.
Chuck went to work for the California Youth Authority at Preston in Ione in 1960 and retired as Northern California Supervising Parole Agent in 1986 and was awarded a California State Senate proclamation acknowledging his dedicated and meaningful work. In both Chuck’s work and in the course of raising the England family with Betty he touched many lives by demonstrating leadership, strength and integrity in everything he did. So many kids were better for having him as their parole agent or coach! Chuck and Betty have enjoyed their horses, each other and the love of family in Newcastle since moving from East Sacramento in 1978. He is missed dearly by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Kay England and their four children, Jeff (Liz), Joe, Kari (Richard) and Kris, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and sisters Iris Milne (Curt) of Glendive, Montana, D’Veda D’Agostini of Provo, Utah, Cherie Cardoza of Olympia, Washington and brother Don England (Dorothy) of Oroville, California and sister-in-law Beverly Jagla of Wenatchee, Washington
At his request, there will be no formal service. The family suggests a donation to your local youth baseball and softball organization would be appreciated by Mr. England.
