Constance Geraldine Hinds

10/20/1921 – 9/25/2021

“Gerri” Hinds was born on October 20, 1921 in Oakland California, the oldest of three daughters of Norwegian immigrants, Gerald and Constance Mathewson. She attended Oakland schools and participated in many Castlemont High school actives. Including being the president of the Swim Club. When WWII came she volunteered at the USO club and was a hospital Candy Striper and when she moved to Auburn, she continued to volunteer for several activities at church up until she stopped driving about the age 80.

She met her husband of 59 years, Norman Hinds, before the war and married him on August 5, 1944. She and Norm loved each other very much. They had three daughters, Peggy Lynn, Kathleen (deceased), and Christine. Norman passed away in November 2003.

Gerri and Norm had a lifelong love of the outdoors and hiking, so, the young Hinds family enjoyed camping and after the girls grew up and left home, they purchased a camper and continued the camping. They traveled and camped in California, Oregon, Washington, and Canada. And to add to the pleasure of camping, Gerri and Norm were avid photographers and joined a photography club. That gave them even more opportunities to pursue outdoor photo outings.

Her surviving family and friends will miss her very much. Her family includes, Peggy Lynn (David), Christine, grandchildren: Michelle, Dean, and Natalie, great-grandchildren: Zephyr and Luli. Plus, many nieces and Nephews, grandnieces and grandnephew, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephew. And her very dear friends. Most importantly, Gerri valued family and her faith in God above all else.

Services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 11:00 am at Chapel of the Hills 1331 Lincoln Way Auburn; CA. Gerri will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward, CA on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 11:30 am.
