Dorothy "Dotty" Dean Nagel passed on Tuesday, April 11th. She was born in Bloomfield, Nebraska, in 1942 and has resided in Auburn, California, for more than 45 years. She is survived by her loving daughters, Jennifer Williams and Kelly Dean; her much-adored grandchildren, Evelyn Smith, Andrew Carducci, and Emily Williams; and her husband, John Nagel.
Dotty will be remembered for her charismatic personality, her love of learning and educating, and her many gifts, including her ability to light up a room, her knack for picking the perfect book for any young reader, her amazing cooking, and her often uncanny intuition. She had a passion for education, earning her degree from UCLA, working as a middle school English teacher in Canoga Park, then as IT Director for the Placer County Office of Education, and, in recent years, completing every online religious studies course offered at Notre Dame.
Her grandchildren will never forget the countless hours Grandma Dotty spent with them, teaching them everything from bridge, tennis, and golf to “entrepreneurship”,” where she paid them a quarter every time they beat her at a card game or told a stranger she was ten years younger than she was. Her daughters will forever try to emulate her cooking, from her world-class beef stroganoff to her turkey gravy. Her enthusiasm and way of inspiring others will be truly missed.
Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Auburn, CA, on Friday, April 28th at 11:00am.
