

Fred was born in Boston, the fourth child of William and Helen Cain. He was a communications chief with the 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division, serving in the Philippines and Japan. After serving his country, he traveled the world installing communication equipment. After those adventures he began a secondary career as a purchasing agent with positions in MA and CA.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, helping others, interesting or provocative conversation, reading, golf, romantic and classic movies, sci-fi, fine and not-so-fine dining, pastel or colorful attire, road trips, a practical joke, a good laugh, traveling to both new and familiar places and parasailing in Mexico when he was in his early 80’s.
Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife Helene Struzik Cain, his parents and siblings. He is survived by his daughter Kathi and her husband John Creedon of Auburn, CA, his daughter Debby Rowan of Sacramento, CA, his beautiful granddaughters, Robin Alger of Watertown, MA and Molly Rowan of Manomet, MA, many relatives and friends across the country and Chumlee, his protector-cat.
Fred will be interred with Helene, her parents and her brother at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA and wished to leave behind the suggestion that the keys to a successful and happy life are: Be positive and don’t lie.
