Grandpa,

It's now coming up on 9 months since you've been gone and the pain hurts just as much today as it did then. I keep hearing it'll get better with time but I can't imagine losing you will ever hurt less.

You were my greatest supporter. The one person who never gave up on me. The one who always pushed me to do my best and then do better.

You are my hero. The person I look up to. The person I want advice from. The person I respect the most. The person I want to make proud.

It's hard for me to say good-bye. It's hard for me to accept that you're gone. It's hard to accept that I can't call you anymore or hear your voice or laugh. It's all just too hard.

I pray I will see you again someday. That I'll be able to hug you and tell you how much I love you. I just want to hear you call me 'kid' again and tell me everything is going to be okay.

I love you, Grandpa. So very much! You touched so many people in your short time here with us. I'm so grateful for all the memories I have of you and all the wisdom you shared with me.

I just learned of Jim's passing.  Jim and I worked together for Overly Manufacturing in the mid 70's.  I flew up from the Los Angeles office a couple times a month for several years. I was young and Jim took me under his wing in the business. We  worked out of the Oakland and San Leandro Builder's Exchanges. Jim and I were both avid baseball fans and enjoyed many Oakland A's games together. We were together at some memorable moments, such as when we passed the Oakland School District Headquarters the morning after all the crazy SLA business started.   We also had a lot of laughs together.  I once got my luggage mixed up with a gentleman named George Foreman. Of course, it wasn't THE George Foreman, but we sure had fun with what the heavyweight champ was going to do with me for grabbing his luggage. Jim often put me up at the Howard Johnson's in Dublin.  I had quite a sweet tooth and would order a HoJo concoction called The Fudgeyama.  Jim came to refer to me as the Fudgeyama Kid. I have thought fondly of Jim many times in the years since our paths diverged. I've shared stories of Jim with my wife and friends. I happened to be in Oakland this week and some of the sights reminded me of him.  I looked him up on-line and saw this obituary.  Connie, it has been a long time but I also had the pleasure of meeting you and the children when they were young. It is good to know how blessed you have been with them and with their children.  I will never forget Jim. May God forever smile on him and may God forever bless you and your family.  Larry Muth

So much to say about a man I so respected that although I have known him for well over 3/4 of my life I had a hard time calling him Jim..I have pictures in my head of him looking at Micayla and I and just shaking his head wondering what we may do next..He had the greatest since of humor and could always make you laugh at your self. One of the more witty, calm, smart and encouraging man I have known. I Love you so much Jim (Dad)and hold a since of calm knowing that although we are all grown up, you will still be there to guide, encourage and make us laugh at ourself's. All my love to the Hawk family.

Jim will be greatly missed from everyone who knew him. Being a employee, friend, or on the ball field with his grandchildren, Jim was a stand up guy. Our hearts go out to Connie and the kids. Hugs to you all, Bud, Lisa & Susan Baehr and David Haskin.

Jim was good man.  A man of wit.  A man of nature.  I bet you he's a caretaker of a beautiful golf course in heaven.  With a dog.  And a bunch of kids.  Laughing.

I too worked with Jim at CBS and my brother was one of Jim's customers as well. We'll never forget Jim's heplful spirit, professionlism and wisdom. He always greeted you with a smile hoping to brighten your day. Jim was a very caring man.

May God Bless and comfort all of your family and friends Uncle Jim and let them know that you are now in paradise and we will see you again one day. Love you and miss you.

I worked with Jim at California Builders Supply in Sacramento. Jim was very intelligent, always extremely professional, and a joy to be around.

Jim, it has been an honor to have been able to work with you and Connie in support of your grandson, Kasey, over the past few years. I have always admired your commitment and dedication to his growth and well-being. You have honored me with your trust and by allowing me to continue to be a part of all of your lives. I will miss our weekly chats, your witty comments and the way you would always make me laugh. You always said to me, "Don't give up on him". I will never give up, Jim. I promise.

Jim will be greatly missed. He and his wife Connie are our neighbor's and wonderful people.  I saw him out working in his yard with his weed eater. He laughingly pointed it at my car as if it were a radar gun. He was always so kind and pleasant.

Today I fed the birds for you and watered all the plants. I even shampooed the carpets. Cliff came up and finished weed eating for you. Kristina, Kelly and I tidied up the house for grandma and went shopping and got grandma a few of her favorite treats.  We took turns letting Tilda outside; she took off a couple times down the driveway and we had to go running. :) End of day now, I'm exhausted, beat.  These tasks you did every single day plus so much more.

Two days in a row now Kelly and I have taken all the kids to the Auburn airport to watch the planes take off like you used to do. I think it's my new favorite place.  

My Grandpa, I love so so much.  Thank you for taking care of me and always being there for me without hesitation.  I will miss most your laugh and your firm hugs that would squeeze me so hard it would hurt; and that even at 25, when I walked into the room it was still, "Hey kid!...".  I will just miss you, my favorite person ever in life.
