Passed: April 9, 2020

55 years, 7 months, 16 days
It is with deep sadness Javier’s family announces his passing on April, 9, 2020. For those who know him and the journey he and his family fought with him, he overcame health obstacles until he could no more. Following his third medical setback from a rare cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma) he passed at home with excellent care and love to the end when God was ready to take him home to Rest in Peace.
He was born to Pablo & Virginia (Cruz) Suarez on August 23, 1964 the youngest of 6 children.
He was raised in Loomis, CA, attended Loomis Elementary and graduated from Del Oro High School in 1982.
Javier and Gayle Strahan-DeVorss married on June 1st,1996 and he became a proud step-dad to Bryan and Justin and eventually, Father-in-law to Ashlie and Tricia and "Grandpa Jav" to Parker, Carson, Hudson, Dylan and Autumn Jayne. He adored them all and held his grandchildren dear to his heart and they all loved their “Grandpa Jav”.
Javier was driven and his career with United Parcel Service from 1984 to 2018 represented that. His family and co-workers valued his dedication and work-ethic. Customers appreciated his customer service as well.
When Javier was diagnosed with life-threatening cancer in September 2012 the appreciation everyone had for him was proven. Everyone from all walks rallied to be involved with the greatest support a person could hope for.
From his initial diagnosis through his “Gift of Life” transplant and successful recovery, Javier and Gayle walked this journey from California to Arizona and a relocation to St. Louis, Missouri twice with hope, faith and belief that the knowledge and expertise of the specialists along with all of their support, positive thoughts, love and prayers would prevail. Thankfully he was blessed with years he would not have otherwise had.
Javier and Gayle genuinely appreciate and give heartfelt thanks to their family, extended family, UPS family, friends and extended friends that shared in the “Gift of Life” liver transplant journey through recovery. As he enjoyed the success of extended life, he was also happy to return to work until a third setback was cause for his medical retirement in 2018. He spent the last 17-months without active treatment and his usual strength, UPS style endurance with wit and a smile intact most days so he and Gayle could fully enjoy their time and that of family and deserved vacation time. They were thankful to experience a few bucket list destinations they would not otherwise have shared. Of course, he pushed through and enjoyed anther annual hunting trip as well. Having acknowledged his blessings, he never lost hope and accepted he may fall short the long-life most wish for.
He was predeceased by his parents Pablo and Virginia, his Father-in-law, William Strahan and Brother-in-Law, Robert Strahan. He is survived by Gayle his wife of 24 years, (noted above) step sons Bryan and Justin, Daughters-in-law Ashlie and Trisha, Grandchildren, Parker, Carson, Dylan, Hudson and Autumn. and siblings Annie, Olivia, Peter, Paul and Gloria, his Mother-in-law, Nona Strahan and Sisters-in-law, Shelia, Cathy and Toni, several Nieces and Nephews, Great Nephew, many Cousins and close Friends.
Due to current restrictions a private viewing will he held April 16th in Auburn. Inurnment will be at Roseville Cemetery and his Celebration-of-Life will be announced at a later date.
With heartfelt gratitude his family also gives thanks to the multitude of doctors, nurses and care teams dedicated to provide him the best in lifesaving treatment and care at CA Pacific Medical Center Sutter-San Francisco, Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale/Phoenix, University of San Francisco Medical Center, Sutter Health-Roseville and Sutter Home Health Hospice for the unwavering care they provided to Javier and Gayle for the past 8-years.
In lieu of flowers so others may receive the opportunity Javier was graciously given, please consider Donations to United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS); www.unos.org or Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation; www.cholangiocarcinoma.org. Your kindness would be greatly appreciated.
