

Rose Edith Vitas was born in Tiburon on September the 29th to Arthur LaValley of Vermont and Marie Bowman of Tennessee. She was raised in Grass Valley and attended Grass Valley High School, now Nevada Union High School. She met and married Fred H. Vitas at the Methodist Church in Nevada City. Rose worked in the grocery business for most of her life and was the first female supervising grocery clerk under the Retail Clerks Union in Northern California. She, along with a group of friends, began the Home Owners Association in her community. She was also very involved with her family and traveling with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She traveled around the world with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Betty, Ruth, Jean, and Joan, and her beloved husband Fred. She is survived by her brothers John and David, son Fred A. Vitas of Auburn, and daughters Melody R. Davis of Menifee and Lily A. Vitas of Auburn, her six grandchildren, and her fourteen great grandchildren.
Rose will be laid to rest with her husband at the New Auburn Cemetery, a future date to be determined. A celebration of life will be held on June 14, 2025 at 2pm at Woodside Village Clubhouse at 12155 Luther Road, Auburn, CA 95603.
