
William “Bill” McMonagle, longtime resident of Colfax, died on August 8, 2013 in Rocklin, CA, the day before his 88th birthday. Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Muriel, who passed away in 2006. Bill and Muriel had no children.
Bill was born in Oakland, CA, the second of seven children born to parents Patrick and Delia McMonagle, who immigrated from Ireland in 1918. The family moved to Los Angeles, where Bill and his siblings attended St. Agnes Catholic School. After graduating from St. Agnes, Bill joined the Air Force where he served stateside for the last two years of WWII.
Bill joined the Los Angeles police department in 1950. He met and married his wife, Muriel, in 1965 (at age 40), and they never had any children. Bill retired from the Los Angeles Police Department in 1977 as a Lieutenant with 27 years of service. He and Muriel then moved to Colfax where Bill began a second career as a postal carrier; he worked an additional 10 years with the USPS, retiring in 1988 at age 62.
Bill was a long-time parishioner of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Colfax, and he was a past-president of the Rotary Club in Los Angeles.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel, his parents, and by all six of his siblings - James, Joseph, Frank, Thomas, Rosemary and Patrick. He is survived by 9 nieces and nephews, 28 grand-nieces and nephews, and 11 great-grand-nieces and nephews.
Bill will be interred alongside his wife, Muriel, at Colfax Cemetery on Saturday, August 17th at 10am. The family will remember Bill with a small memorial service following the internment at noon at Sunrise of Rocklin, Bill’s place of residence since October 2012.
