John was born the son of Ralph and Margaret (Bialk) Maloney on February 19, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan. John graduated from De Lasalle High School, class of 1953 as a standout captain of the basketball and baseball teams. John earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from GMI. He married Marie Annette Russell on May 24, 1958, at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Royal Oak, Michigan. John and Annette raised their family in Warren and later Rochester Hills. John had a successful career with General Motors starting at Fisher Body, g working as part of the team pioneering electric cars at the GM Tech Center and retiring in 1992 from GM’s Truck and Bus facility. John was a member of the St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Wyndgate Country Club.
John loved his wife and family foremost. He enjoyed golf at Wyndgate in Michigan and Pine Lakes Country Club in North Fort Meyers, Florida. I1461n earlier years, John was an avid bowler in many leagues over the years. John was always welcoming and never said no when he could help someone.
John is survived by his loving wife Annette Maloney; children Jeanne (Robert) Fischer, Julie (Daniel) Bianchi, and Jennifer Matz; grandchildren Daniel (Rachel) Fischer and Erica (Michael) Burroughs; great-grandchildren Madeline Fischer, Anna Burroughs, and Thomas Burroughs; and sister Fran Moriarity; as well as 22 nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his sons Joseph and Stephen Maloney and daughter Sally Maloney; his parents; and sister Margaret Schaller.
Visitation will be Thursday February 26, 2026, from 4-7pm at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 3530 Auburn Road, in downtown Auburn Hills Michigan. The funeral service will be on Friday February 27, 2026, at 11am (10:30 instate) at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, located at 771 Old Perch Road in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in honor of the Wyndgate Golf for the Cause and B4B.
