He was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 29, 1929. Bill graduated from Cooley High School. He was married to Sybil Delphine (Del) Luke on May 10, 1952. Bill worked for Detroit Edison for 40 years. He was also a Michigan State High School Athletic Official for over 30 years. Bill was an avid sports fan and a University of Michigan Football season ticket holder. Bill enjoyed golf, softball, travel and loved to watch his grandkids play sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Johns; his wife, Delphine; and his son, Paul. Bill is survived by his children, Douglas, Tom (Anne), Gary (Lily), Rob, and Sandee (Dave); his grandchildren, Vanessa, Brian, Suzanne, Trevor, Nicole, Steven, Dana, Adam, Brendan, Alyssa, Danny, Haylee, and Jason; his 11 great grandchildren, with more on the way; and his sister in law, Betty Johns.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 4-8 PM at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Rd., Auburn Hills, Michigan. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11 AM, with visitation starting at 10 AM until the time of service, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 165 E. Square Lake Rd., Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Bill will be laid to rest, next to his wife, at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley, Michigan. As Bill would say, “Go Blue!!”
