Artemisa Antonietta Barrera Cass Trevino Rollick, also known as Arte Rollick, died of pulmonary fibrosis on the evening of Monday, March 29, 2010. Surrounded by her family and dogs, Rosie and Lita, our mother left this world to become reunited with her husband of 51 years, Nicholas Peter Rollick, her mother, Olga Cass Trevino, her father Elpidio Barrera and her brother, Hector Barrera.
Artemisa was born on August 18th, 1930 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico where she spent her youth. She also spent a great deal of time in Corpus Christi, Texas. Artemisa loved politics and the history that went along with it. Her father, Elpidio was a former Radio Host and Senator in Mexico in the 1930’s and her mother, Olga has lineage that is traced back to Jose Francisco Ruiz, first Texas senator and one of three native Texans to sign the Declaration of the Independence of Texas including family that she had in the Alamo. A fierce and loyal patriot to her final days, Artemisa loved to engage in a healthy discourse of current business and political affairs.
The number one fan for her, she could often be heard cheering them on from the bleachers at all of their sporting events. Our mother lived her life to the fullest extent and was always a willing participant in all sorts of life adventures. Artemisa loved to travel; her sojourns included many of the 50 states, Mexico, Canada, England, France and South America. Mom was an avid sports fan, ardent gardener and devoted to the many dogs and other animals she had as pets in her lifetime.
Artemisa is survived by her five children who include Nicholas Peter Rollick, jr., Henry Rollick, Andra Phitamma (Rollick), Carol Brickner (Rollick), and Peter Rollick, seven granddaughters and three grandsons and her sister Olga Devega. We loved our mother and will miss her greatly. She will always be in our hearts.
A funeral service for Artemisa will be held at Price-Helton Funeral Home on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m under the direction of Price-Helton Funeral Home, located at 702 Auburn Way North in Auburn, Washington. Online sentiments may be journaled at www.price-heltonfuneralhome.com
