Clayton Weaver Baldwin

On November 3, 2012, Clayton Weaver Baldwin, 93, devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend, went to be with his Savior following a lengthy illness. He had lived in Federal Way, Washington, 20 years.

Clayton was born in Oakland, California on September 12, 1919. He held Castlemont High School’s high jump record for 34 years, clearing the bar at 6 feet, two-and-a-half inches in 1937.

In 1942, he enlisted in the US Army, serving two years in the African and Italian campaigns, with an additional six months in The Philippines before he received an honorable discharge in 1945.

He began his banking career in Oakland with Morris Plan in 1949. He focused on the consumer loan divisions with First Western, United California and Lloyd’s banks, retiring as a vice president of Lloyd’s Bank in San Francisco in 1980.

Clay and his wife, Rebecca, were active members of Grace Community Church in Auburn, WA. They enthusiastically supported the missions work and enjoyed the friendships and fellowship of the seniors group.

He and Rebecca, who passed away in 2002, were married for 61 years. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Chester (Ray) of Flagstaff, Arizona, Joan Artman of Kent, Washington.; four grandsons, Eric Chester (Tina), Ryan Chester (Roongrat), Greg Artman and Peter Artman; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Renee and Raze Chester; nephews Marty Parker (Liz), Dave Parker (Judy), John Parker (Jeannette), Phil Ripley, Pete Baldwin (Jenny), Chris Baldwin and niece Nikki Magnan.
