Josephine Frances (Stack) Roux was born on February 25, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to Margaret and John Stack. She grew up with her four siblings, Kathleen, Mary, Margaret, and William. Josephine met the love of her life, Gerald Roux, at a church youth social. Josephine and Gerald were married on September 8, 1951. The couple raised eight children: Dennis, Mary Rita, Nancy, Eileen, Regina, Charlene, Vincent, and Patrick. The family lived in Michigan, Illinois, Louisiana, and Alabama before settling in Auburn, Washington in 1969.
Josephine had a life long sense of curiosity and commitment to involvement. Even when her many children were young, she was actively engaged, for instance, in 1961, she received a Bachelor in Square Dancing from the college of Do Di Dos and Allenmande Lefts. In 1967, she was awarded a Certificate of Achievement from Dr. John Kramer in Basic Art, and in 1968, she received a second Certificate of Achievement for Color Theory.
Josephine was the center of the family life of Gerald and their eight children. She was involved in her children's activities, receiving official appreciation from Holy Family Camp Fire, a mini-stitchery award from Sister Ann Comelia of Holy Family, and a "Thank You" from the Auburn Cub Scout Den W-1 Pack 412.
Josephine was generous and shared her time and energy with her church. For many years, she was President of the Holy Family Women's Society, and treasurer for the Cabrini Circle. After being certified by the Red Cross for blood pressure in 1984, she organized and trained volunteers to take blood pressure. Over the years, many Holy Family parishioners benefited from her efforts, as blood pressure events were held every Sunday. She was also the chair of the Holy Family Church 25th Anniversary celebration in 1988.
Also active in the community, Josephine organized the Auburn South County Community Clinic (SCCC). She approached many doctors, dentists, and nurses and thus provided medical help for unemployed and needy families. She served on the board of the SCCC, which was later changed to the Auburn Community Clinic (ACC). She received the Community Service Award from the Auburn Chamber of Commerce in 1985. In 1986, Josephine received the South King County Council of Human Services LINK Award for "Outstanding Volunteer Involvement in Social and Health Services in South King County." Additionally, she received the Auburn Elks "Citizen of the Year Award" in 1986. She was the co-founder of the South King County Self Help for Hard of Hearing (SHHH). She served for many years as treasurer.
Josephine passed away on April 4, 2015, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her husband, Gerald, and her eight children, 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and her sister Mary (Molly) Roux. She is cherished by her husband, family, friends, church, and community.
