Mary Jean Hoerle

Jean (as she liked to be called) was born on Dec. 11, 1923 to Edward Charles and Maude Marie (Pierce) Beed in Norfolk, NE. She was the eldest of three children and grew up on a farm in Nebraska. On Oct. 19, 1940 she married Cletus F. Hoerle, and to this union two sons were born. Cletus was hired by The Boeing Company the year following their marriage, so they moved to Seattle where they built a house and lived in the Boulevard Park area. They were members of Glendale Lutheran Church.

Jean was a hardworking, remarkable woman who had a huge heart and strong soul, whose essence was her love and compassion for others. Jean cherished her husband and children. She wasn’t just a home maker, she was an excellent cook, she had a passion for gardening and landscaping, and she enjoyed many hobbies. She truly loved serving her Lord, her church and her community.

After Cletus retired from Boeing with 32 years of service they moved to Auburn and attended Messiah Lutheran Church. They enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and traveling the countryside. In June of 1992, a few years after the death of her husband, Jean moved to Judson Park Retirement Community in Des Moines. There she continued doing the things she loved. She led vespers at chapel, did gardening, flower arranging, arts and crafts of every kind, traveled, and had many memorable times with family and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her brother who died at birth, her husband of 49 years, and her youngest son, Ronald E. Hoerle. She leaves to mourn, her son, Gary L. Hoerle and wife, Sharon of Perry, NY; sister, Frances Durre of Seward, NE; niece, Bonnie and husband, Tom Ficklin of Seattle, WA; grandchildren and great grandchildren; nephews, nieces, extended family members , and friends. Jean will be forever loved and deeply missed!

A viewing will be held on Wed Oct 3, 2012 from 4-8pm and on Thurs Oct 4th from 10-12pm at Price-Helton Funeral Home in Auburn. Graveside services will follow at Washington Memorial Cemetery at 1pm. A service in memory of Jean will be held on Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Judson Park’s Rainier Chapel. Rev. Bill Painter will officiate.
