Moe was born in Gaylord, Minnesota on February 13, 1922 to Herman O. and Erva (Ritter) Spiess. He had one brother, Cyril and a sister, Erna.
After graduating from Hayfield High School in 1940 and working odd jobs, the bombing of Pearl Harbor enticed Moe to join the military on April 16th, 1942. He was chosen for Naval Aviator training winning his Navy Golden Wings in 1943. After a 22 year career, he retired Lieutenant Commander in July 1964.
While stationed in Corpus Cristi, Texas, Moe met and married Beverly A. Dingman. They began their 64 year journey together on August 11th, 1944 and had six children: Morris Jr., James, Debra, Pamela, Kimberly and Jerome.
Following a short career with United Airlines in Denver, Moe and Bev settled in Auburn, Washington, where Moe began his final career with Boeing as a flight instructor until retiring in 1988 (with strict instructions to go fishing!) to enjoy a life of leisure. Lettering in football and basketball during high school he remained an avid sports fan sharing his enthusiasm coaching youth basketball 1974-1979.
Never one to “burn daylight”, Moe enjoyed fishing, gardening, tending to the cows or just relaxing with a cold beer. He will be remembered for his “sweet tooth” which served him well to his final days.
He is preceded in death by his wife Beverly and survived by his six children, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
