

Robert Ellard Carlton, 86, passed away July 30, 2011 in Auburn, WA. He was born in Yakima, Washington. He served in the US Navy during World War Two. He returned to Tacoma and found work at Tacoma City Light. He was married to Bertha Katherine June 11, 1949. He was a 64 year member of IBEW 483 and retired from Tacoma City Light in 1980 after 33 years. He was a life member of the Lakewood Elks 2388. In retirement Robert and Bertha traveled extensively world wide. He is preceded in death by his wife Bertha. He is survived by three children, Cathy Swanson (Wynn), Dale Carlton (Cynthia) and John Carlton, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Among his accomplishments was the establishment of Tahoma House in 1981. The eight-resident home was the areas first federally-financed group home for the developmentally disabled. Memorial services to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent WA, 9:30am Monday August 15th.
