Henry was born on January 5, 1939, to Richmond and Rebecca Shepherd at their home in Pyramid, Kentucky. After graduating from Prestonsburg High School, Henry enlisted in the US Army and served from August of 1958 to August of 1961. He often remarked that much of his professional success was due to the training and education he received during his military service.
Henry married Joyce Helen McKenzie, of Michigan Center, Michigan on June 30, 1963. Their 58-year union produced three daughters.
His life is celebrated by his daughters Michele Shepherd and her spouse Rev. Paul Schweinler, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kristen Justice and spouse Lee Justice, of Lake Hamilton, Florida, and Heather Shepherd Haselbarth and spouse Matt Haselbarth, of East Greenville, Pennsylvania. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Gabrielle Veuthey, Tiffany Justice, Nathan Justice, and Kaley Justice.
Henry is survived by his brother Clyde Russell Shepherd, of Lexington, Kentucky. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Arbie Shepherd and sister Ella Mae Slone.
Henry earned an Associate degree from Jackson Community College in Jackson, Michigan. He also Earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida Tech, now known as University of Central Florida. But he always had a place in his heart for the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
The foundation of Henry’s life was love. Love for God, love for his family, and love of his country.
Throughout his adult life, Henry was an active and faithful church member as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member.
For several years after retirement, Henry and his wife volunteered their time, talent, and treasure in various places. He was an avid reader and shared that passion by coaching 1st graders to improve their reading skills.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Henry’s name to Good Shepherd Hospice or The Florida Baptist Children’s Homes.
