It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Joseph Wornick, known as “Hawkeye,” on June 5, 2025 at the age of 93. Hawkeye was a man of strength, heart, and humor—someone who served in the US Army and lived life with deep love for his family and community. For 72 years, he was a devoted husband to Gloria, the love of his life. Their marriage was a testament to partnership, patience, and shared laughter. Together they raised their son Jimmie building a family grounded in love, loyalty, and home-cooked meals.
Hawkeye had a deep passion for building things, boxing, football, fishing, and cheering on his beloved New York Yankees. Whether he was casting a line or yelling at the TV during a close game, he brought energy and enthusiasm to the things he loved. He had a fighter’s heart—tough and determined, but his greatest strength was his compassion.
Never one to sit back when others were in need, Hawkeye created a neighborhood charity to help provide medical equipment and access to care for those facing difficult times. He believed in taking care of each other—not because it was expected, but because it was right. His selfless service made a lasting impact on his community and touched many lives.
He was a proud husband, dad and grandfather. Whether it was telling stories, teaching life lessons, always being there, he gave us the kind of love that stays with you forever.
Hawkeye is survived by his child; Jimmie and wife Tina; his grandchildren; Tristan and Logan.
Jim will join Gloria at the Florida National Cemetery.
