Michael Barretta, age 83, of Lakeland, Florida passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Michael appreciated the art of living slowly. A quiet and deeply independent man, he found joy in simple pleasures - a well-cooked meal, a jazz tune, and a peaceful evening at home. He lived life on his own terms.
He spent many years working in aerospace quality control and took great pride in contributing to the construction of both military and commercial aircraft. He enjoyed sharing stories of his world travels and the many planes he had the opportunity to fly in.
Though he kept a small circle, those who knew Michael will remember his dry wit, sharp mind, and steady presence. He wasn’t one for crowds or ceremony, but he valued meaningful conversations and the freedom of a long road trip.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Rocco Barretta and Clara Seguino; his son, Scott Barretta; his sister, Marion Kross; and his brother, Ronald Barretta.
He is survived by his son, Michael Barretta Jr.; his grandchildren, Victoria Barretta-Fink, Robert Barretta, and Ryan Barretta; and his great-granddaughter, Elise Fink.
In keeping with his wishes, his ashes will be spread at sea. In his memory, please put on a jazz song and think of him.
