

Mildred Faye McQuery Shelton was born in Southwest Virginia on July 9, 1933, to Clarence E. McQuery and Maggie (Payne) McQuery. She went peacefully from her home in Lakeland into the arms of Jesus, whom she loved with all her heart and served since her new birth experience as a teenager. She departed this early life on December 7, 2017.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Royce M. Shelton, their daughter, Kimberly Beth Forbes (Jerry, Jr.) of Arlington,Texas and Kevin Mark Shelton of Lakeland. She has seven siblings, all of whom are yet living: Robert Gene McQuery (Doris) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Donald McQuery (Jan) of Mt. Julliet, Tennessee, Buddy McQuery (Dorothy) of loveland, Ohio, Ronald Dean McQuery (Marilyn) of Milford, Ohio, Patty Joyce Dean (Bobby) of Gray, Tennessee, Jimmy McQuery (Marilyn) of Clarkston, Michigan, and Sandy Smith (Buddy) of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She has two grandsons: Jerry Martin Forbes III and Joshua Mark Forbes of Arlington, Texas. She has many nieces and nephews.
Faye was an elementary school teacher and an adult school teacher for over 40 years. She taught in DuPage County, Illinois and in Polk County, Florida. Faye had a mild and sweet personality which drew her to family and friends. She was an avid reader. She loved entertaining in her home and was known along with her other cooking skills as an excellent baker. She loved travel and with her family, visited many parts of the world since retirement. As a minister's wife, she supported and was involved in almost every form of ministry which kept her busy on many fronts with never a word of complaint about the pressures. She, with her quiet caring ways will b greatly missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 13, from 10-11 at the Light of Lights Chapel at Victory Church in Lakeland with a funeral service following at 11 am. Graveside services will be at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens at 3 p.m.
