She was born in Lakeland, FL on September 15, 1927, to John and Mattie Smith. Oveida graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1945. She had a love for music and learned to play the piano at a young age which carried through her life. She was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed playing for churches and nursing homes. It was that love for music that led to her meeting and marrying Charles Proctor, Jr. who at that time owned the Crystal Beach Pavilion on Eagle Lake and was an accomplished musician and singer. They were married for 63 years and were blessed with 5 children. Oveida dedicated her life to loving and raising her family. She and her husband volunteered much of their time playing music, singing and giving devotionals to area nursing homes and assisted living facilities. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake and sang in the choir. She was always bold to talk to anyone about God and the importance of getting to know Him and His son Jesus.
She is survived by her children: Donna Stewart, Dale Proctor (Teresa), Robert Proctor (Debbie) and Lori Proctor. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 nieces, 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
