

Dorothy (Dot) Mae Norwood, 77, of Augusta, Georgia, formerly of St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, transitioned on January 17, 2017. Dorothy was born in Eutaw, Alabama on January 1, 1940 where she was raised by her grandparents Fannie and Sherman Norwood, Sr. She was educated in the Eutaw and Kinloch public schools. She earned a Liberal Arts Associate’s degree from Florissant Valley Community College as well as various certificate and continuing education credits.
In addition, Dorothy had various jobs which included: Cosmetologist, CNA, medical billing, pre-school instructor, tax preparer with H&R Block and a Steel worker with Hussmann Refrigeration Company (where she served as secretary of the union). Momma enjoyed learning and improving herself. She also enjoyed traveling to such places as Canada, Panama and Italy.
Dorothy married Robert E. Williams, Sr., from that union where six children. As she traveled and relocated with her children and grandchildren she always had a church home in that area: First Baptist Church and Freedonia MBC of Kinloch, Missouri; Mount Pleasant MBC of Kansas City, Missouri; Macedonia Church of Grovetown and Grace Fellowship Church of Augusta, Georgia. Church activities included: trustee, an usher, choir member and on the mother board.
Her children are most proud of her support and advice as they began to raise their own families. Her grandchildren endearingly called her “Gangsta Grandma”. Grandma Dorothy would support and love you, but she would also get with you in a Nano second. She had a little of the “Madea” spirit.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Fannie and Robert Norwood, Sr.; her son, Robert E. Williams, Jr., grandchildren, Keith Williams and Raven Brazil; brothers-Milton Hutton and Robert Hutton, Jr.
Left until they meet again are her children: James O. Norwood, Sr. (Hilda) of St. Louis, Missouri, Gwendolyn L. Brazil and Alphonso Williams both of Kansas City, Kansas, Lenora S. Williams of Augusta, Georgia, Cynthia V. Williams-Godoy (Trinidad) and Jacqueline T. Henderson (Walter) both of Denver, Colorado and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Williams of St. Louis, Missouri.; Sisters: Ruthie Mae Hutton and Anita McComb both of Berkley, Missouri. Grandchildren: Rev. James O. Norwood, Jr. (Marquette), Youlanda Norwood, Patrick Norwood (Lynn), Marques Norwood, O’Marion Norwood, Jessica Shipp, Murry Shipp, Elizabeth J. Brazil, Eli B. Brazil, Joshua O. Brazil (Kizzie), Daniel B. Brazil, Porsche Williams, Quylonda Williams, Raneisha Williams, Jamaal Williams, Sebastian Williams, Randy Wilford (Adria), Jermaine Williams, Antoinette Williams, Solomon Henderson, Elijah Henderson, Donivan Henderson and Yersinia Henderson; 54 great-grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, faith family and friends who loved and will miss her dearly.
A Memorial Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, at Mount Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Inurnment following in Mount Moriah Cemetery. No viewing. Bishop Eric D. Morrison of Kingdom Word Ministries officiating.
