AUGUSTA, Ga. - Dudley W. Cheape, Jr., 88, wife of Melba Long Cheape passed away on September 2, 2012 at Kentwood Nursing Home in Augusta, Georgia. He was born in Greensboro, Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in 1944 with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked in research and development at Monsanto/Chemstand for over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley W. Cheape Sr. and Julia Tutwiler Cheape, and a sister, Julia Cheape Lindsay. He is survived by his wife Melba, sister Kathleen Cheape of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, son Dr. John Cheape of Augusta, daughter Julia Cheape Wood (Mark) of Auburn, Alabama, grandchildren Christopher, Cameron, and Ryan Cheape, Emily Wood Traylor, and Elizabeth Wood. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11am at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Alabama.
