

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Magnolia Cemetery on 3rd Street. Pallbearers will be Seth Bernanke, Brian Saul, Gary Jackson, Bruce Saul, Ron Melcher, and Jeff Melcher. Honorary pallbearers are Lou Saul, Jerry Saul, David Saul, Steve Carie, Jay Sawilowsky, Max Bogla, Gerald Erlich, Lou Scharff, Hy Sussman, Norman Shapiro, Bob Botnick, Richard Ramsey, Roy Ferretti, and Ron Altman.
He was born on September 13, 1934 in Baltimore, MD to Morris and Rose Goldberg. He attended Baltimore public schools, including Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, and graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1955 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After college, Ed joined DuPont at Savannah River Plant from 1955-1964. In 1964, he joined the Atomic Energy Commission at SRP, holding several positions including Assistant Manager of Operations. While living in Augusta, GA, Ed met and married Maxine Saul in 1960. They had three children, Ellen, Larry, and Glenn. Maxine passed away in 1982 and in 1984 Ed transferred to Richland Operations Office in Richland, WA as Deputy Manager. He married Judith A. Nash in 1988 and they retired to Reno, NV in 1992. They enjoyed cross-country skiing, tennis, bowling, golf and many wonderful trips and cruises. He was a member of the Nuclear Society Federal Senior Executive Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also a member of the Augusta Jaycees, the Augusta Jewish Community Center and the Adas Yeshurun Synagogue for over 50 years.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Judith, his children, Ellen (Seth) Bernanke, Larry (Jan) Goldberg, and Glenn (Cynthia) Goldberg, stepchildren, Kathleen (Steve) Carie, and Michael Sean McCarthy, and seven grandchildren: Hannah, Max, Mariah, Karinne, Zack, Jasmine and Allison.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Morris and Rose Goldberg, his sister Beverly Goldberg Israel, and his first wife Maxine Saul Goldberg.
