

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Roy W. Howard, retired Master Sgt. went home to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, February 11, 2013 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM Friday, February 15, 2013 at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church with Rev. David Beck officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry W. Reese, Randy Pelham, Joey Beasley, Ricky Rooks, Ryan Rooks and Tommy North. Roy was a member of Westside Baptist Church. He was retired from the US Army after 32 years, 4 months, and 4 days of service. Roy served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam Wars. Roy was a life-time member of the American Legion, Local, State and National Sgt. at Arms, Past Post Commander. He was responsible for the starting of the Veterans Day Parade and the Color Guard of Funerals for our veterans of all services. He also retired after 19 years of service at Medical College of Georgia. Roy enjoyed bowling , traveling, and dancing. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Beneteau Howard, parents, John W. and Carrie Clark Howard, brother, Paul Howard, and sister, Fannie Earl. Roy is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gladys T. Rooks Howard; children, Cheryl Faglier (Ron) Ramirez, and Karen H. (David) Turner; step-children, Don (Sheryl) Rooks , Joy (Tommy) North, Rick (Cathy) Rooks, and Paul (Shelley) Rooks; grandchildren, Lynn (Jerry) Brooks, Jerry W. Reese, and Joey Beasley; four great grandchildren; 1 great -great grandchild; ten step- grandchildren; and thirteen step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906 and on Friday, February 15, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
