Wayne began his career as a lineman for the telephone company while attending the College of Southern Maryland. He later trained in welding and pipefitting through Local 602, working on numerous plants and industrial projects. His dedication to his craft led him to master the trade, even becoming an underwater welder. Wayne went on to build a distinguished career in the engineering field as a construction coordinator and industrial task manager for multiple power plants, where he earned deep respect for his knowledge, strong work ethic, and leadership.
Wayne was a man of many passions, and whatever he pursued, he pursued wholeheartedly. He thrived on challenges, from his years racing dirt track and Legend Series cars to his love of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, boating, fishing, and firearms.
An entrepreneur at heart, Wayne started several ventures over the years. He operated a weekend shrimp boat, the Ms. Schree, and founded the Shannon Son Karate Studio, where he shared his discipline, passion, and knowledge with many students.
He took great pride in the home he and his beloved wife, Schree, built in Athens—a place where he found his greatest peace.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Schree McConnell; his children, Dawn & Kurt Kuster and Shannon McConnell; his grandchildren, Skyler & Tommie Jones, Kassidy & Mitch Shenk, and Wyatt Oswald; and his great-grandchildren, Walker and Kohen Jones. He is also survived by his siblings Cynthia Pierce, Kip McConnell, Shawn McConnell.
