Dewey L. Jackson III was born July 5, 1950 in St. Louis Missouri to Florence M. and Dewey L. Jackson Jr. In October of 1951, “Toney,” as he is lovingly known by his family and close friends, moved to Denver when his parents were transferred with the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center. Shortly thereafter, the family welcomed a new addition, his baby sister Denise (Neecey.) Dewey demonstrated his grandfather’s love of music and gift for playing the trumpet. He became a part of the band in Elementary School which led to the honor of being selected to perform in Mile-Hi Boys Band. As he continued to excel musically, he participated in both Jr. High and High School Concert and Jazz Band. His passion continued even after High School, as he “blew that horn” in several bands around Denver. One of his favorite artists was James Brown. Dewey even mastered the dance, the James Brown with that quick turn followed by “hitting the splits.”
While at East High School, he met Helen Ruth Roberts, whom he married after attending Southern Colorado State College. To this union was born three beautiful children; Terry LaMont, Dewey L. IV and Staci Nichele. Dewey was a very devoted husband and father who because of his love for Christ insisted on rearing his children in the Church. Most important to Dewey was having a personal relationship with God. A very gentle, kind, and caring soul, he led his family by example.
After his College years, Dewey was gainfully employed by the Denver Water Board for many years. His hobbies and activities were always built around his family and he enjoyed music, sports, and simply spending time with his family and loved ones.
In 1983, Dewey was stricken with a progressive illness and though it limited his mobility, it did not diminish his gentle and sweet sprit or his infectious smile.
Dewey is preceded in death by his mother, father and his mother-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memory; wife Helen, his three children, Terry, Dewey IV, Staci, his grandchildren Darian , Kari , his sister Denise, Maternal Aunt Dorothy G.
