

Eslee Simpson-Brown (Essie) was born November 26, 1923 in Bartlett, Texas to Olivia Brown and McKinley Simpson. She was the sibling of brother Robert Simpson (deceased) and sister Blanch May (Simpson) Walton (deceased). She moved to Denver, Colorado in 1950, making Denver her home.
Essie attended public school in Corsicana, Texas; she attended night school at Manual High School (Denver) to achieve her GED. She attended Emily Griffith School of Opportunity (Denver) for Culinary Arts.
Essie was married three times during her life to Hosea Moore, Lester Eugene Holmes and Henry James Brown. Through this union she mothered one son and three daughters.
Essie loved to work. She was employed by the Brown Palace, Cherry Creek Inn and several other hotels. She was also employed by Children's Hospital in the Dietary Department, she retired in 1985. Essie and her husband Henry Brown were proud owners of two cabs; the brown and white cab, #3 and #9 at the Ritz Cab Company in Denver, Colorado.
Essie was better known by all her loved ones as "dear." She loved to dress in full fashion with matching accessories. Her favorite color was blue. Essie was admired by many because of her beautiful poise.
Essie loved to sing; she was known for her songbird voice. Essie often with sang well-known local and professional entertainers at places like the Diamond Cabaret and other Five Point night clubs. Essie sang while she was cooking, washing dishes, or whenever she heard music. She hummed and whistled songs and words as she combed her hair. Essie loved to tell stories and often made you laugh. Essie prayed frequently and accepted Christ into her life.
Dear (Essie) loved her family and extended family. She found pleasure with taking care of her grandchildren; she especially wanted her grandsons to be well educated and to grow up prosperous. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart.
Essie leaves to cherish her memory one son Hosea (Winifred) Moore of Denver, and three daughters, Asilee Alphonso Starr, Levvie Ann (Willie Hammon) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Lestie (Fred Graham) of Denver; three grandchildren, Darrell Ragland, Kimberly Alexander and LaToya Robinson; ten great grandchildren as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
